Board of Directors Bios

 

Jordan Centers, President

Jordan Centers first became involved in the single payer movement in December 2014 as a nursing student at Rush University, where she was one of the founding members of the Rush chapter of Students for a National Health Program. They hosted events educating classmates on the US healthcare system and how it compared to others and helped organize two rallies in support of Medicare for All. After graduating in December 2015 and becoming a nurse, she became a member of ISPC. She currently is a mental health nurse working in Rogers Park.

 

Pam Gronemeyer, Vice-President

Pam is a PNHP member, a board member of Missourians for Single-Payer, and leads Southern Illinois People for Progress. She is an anatomic and clinical pathologist. She is the director and a woman small business owner of SEMC Pathology in Highland,IL  which is a pathology business which provides pathology services to six critical access hospitals in southwestern Illinois- St. Joseph's Hospital (Highland,IL), Red Bud Regional hospital (Red  Bud ,IL),Washington County Hospital (Nashville,IL)< Pnickneyvilee Community Hospital (Pinckneyville,IL), Marshall Browning Hospital (DuQuoin,IL) and Community Memorial Hospital (Staunton,IL).The service also runs a CAP accredited cytology service with testing for sexually-transmitted diseases and gynecologic and nongynecologic cytologies.  She is actively involved in directing the Infection Contril committees in the hospitals as well as working on quality assurance activities and advocating for patient saftey. She believes "healthcare is a human right" and provides healthcare insurance to her employees and their dependents with minimal out-of-pocket expense. She is an activist in her community and in the healthcare arena.  As the child of a late union laborer, she knows that our safety net is vital to the preservation of our democracy.

 

Sean Zolfo, Secretary

Sean Zolfo has worked in both clinical and non-clinical sides of health care. He first got interested in health care ny exploring options for unionizing healthcare workers.  He believes that healthcare is a crucial component of broader social justice movements. 

 

Mark Johnson, Treasurer

Mark Johnson is a native of Illinois, born in Urbana and grew up in Chicago and suburbia.  Attended college at MIT and Stanford, where he received his PhD in economics.  Now retired, his last teaching position was at Chicago State University.  He has been a supporter of some kind of single payer health care for decades and the past couple of years an active member of ISPC-Chicago. 

 

Susan Aarup, Director

Susan Aarup holds a BA from Wright State University, Dayton OH; an MS in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Springfield College, Springfield MA; and an MA in Theological Studies from the Lutheran School of Theology of Chicago. She believes in working together across organizations. Besides being a single-payer activist, she has been fighting for disability rights for more than 35 years, and has participated in many acts of civil disobedience with the disability rights organization ADAPT. She is a founding member of the Illinois Single-Payer Coalition (ISPC), and Chair of the ISPC People with Disabilities Committee; a former Co-coordinator of Chicago ADAPT; a member of the steering committee of the Alliance for Community Services, which brings together unionized state human services workers and people who use state services; and a member of the Board of Nourthside Action for Justice in Chicago. She is a former AFSCME member who currently works as a peer health navigator for people with physical disabilities. 

 

William Bianchi, Director

Bill is retired from teaching and corporate training. He is the former state chair of Progressive Democratis of America and is now active with Chicago Democratic Socialists of America.  His focus is on builidng support for Single Payer and developing a progressive electoral base that would fuel a progressive governing majority at local, state and national levels.  He is also active in building support for a new political party that will be free of corporate control.

 

Anna Carvlin, Director

Anna Carvlin holds a Masters in Public Health from Tulane University and a BS in Biological Sciences with a Minor in Gender & Women’s Studies from UIC, and a non-profit management certificate from the University of New Mexico, Anderson School of Business. Anna served as a community health educator in the Peace Corps in Togo, West Africa. She has worked extensively with homeless providers and addressing food access issues. Her background also includes non-profit resource development, yoga and Pilates instruction, and grassroots coalition building.

 

Lauren Kadziel, Director

Lauren Kadziel holds a Masters in Public Health from Loma Linda University and is a Certified Health Education Specialist. She has worked in reproductive justice, implementation of evidence-based medicine, and health care access for young adults, as well as for single-payer health care.
